Orbit Cologne

Publicly (in)visible

Have you ever been to a foreign city and suddenly had to release urgent bladder pressure? Or are you looking for a pet-friendly park after moving with your dog? Accessibility to shared infrastructure is one of the quality criteria for evaluating public spaces, as it has a strong influence on how people interact with the city. However, each citizen has a limited but specific knowledge of the facilities in their neighbourhood. In this self-initiated project, we investigated these supposedly publicly visible but somehow invisible structures in the city and developed a platform to make it easier to find these places in Cologne.

In cooperation with: Konstantin Kreis, Lucca Weigert und Jada Hung

Process

To start the process, we analysed existing platforms and conducted user interviews to gain insight into what people really need and want. Once we had sorted through the answers, we started building and testing the low-fidelity prototype.

During this stage we came up with features like the customisable hotbar and layered information windows. Once we were happy with the results, we continued the design journey by building a high fidelity prototype.

Result

The final outcome of the project is the design and visual development of the web application “orbit cologne”. In addition to the screens, we created an interactive click dummy built in ProtoPie.
