The view about grubs has always been characterized more negatively. Most people are disgusted by their look and appearance. For us, that is one of the main reasons why we chose the grubs. The black and white view of the people is one-sided and we want to change it. It is true that grubs‘ natural living environment is in rotten flesh and excrement.
But if they would not live in the excrement, they would not eat it and hence be everywhere. Our environment would be literally full of shit and dead rotten bodies. Therefore, if they would not exist, we would have no bees and other insects – humans would slowly die. Nature is an invaluable resource. It gives us a place to breathe, to live and to develop. We as humans are part of it and so are all the plants and insects.
With our collection we want to show all the shapes of the beauty of nature.
Our wearable accessories show how humans would look with characteristics of insects. The confrontation of the differences and the similarity between humans and insects can help to extend the black and white view.
What makes the insects so resistible, adaptable and survivable? How can people see them with different eyes and appreciate the value of them?
Under the influence of the Paris fashion scene and together with students from LISAA (L’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués) we challenged yourself to adapt the strength of insects into accessories. Therefore we produced little pieces of plexiglass with a laser cutter and combined them with a sewing technique.
The collection shows the purity and unpredictableness of nature. The grubs are a part of nature as we are, and nature is inestimable. Everything depends on each other and even the smallest grubs can be beautiful if you look at them in a different way. People should give scrubs a second look and they may see nature‘s beauty.
